A Social Science Perspective on Institutional Alignment and Workforce Readiness in Teacher Education

Abstract
Institutional alignment has become increasingly important in ensuring that teacher education programs effectively prepare graduates for the evolving demands of the education sector. From a social science perspective, institutional alignment encompasses the interaction of institutional policies, curriculum, educational practices, organizational culture, and professional development initiatives that collectively influence workforce readiness. This study explored the social science perspectives on institutional alignment and its role in fostering workforce readiness in teacher education. A qualitative research design using Interpretive Description was employed to obtain an in-depth understanding of participants' experiences and perspectives. Sixteen (16) purposively selected participants, consisting of teacher education faculty members, academic administrators, and education employers, participated in semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis, resulting in six major themes: (1) Institutional Alignment as the Foundation of Workforce Preparation, (2) Institutional Culture Promotes Professional Growth and Social Responsibility, (3) Responsive Curriculum Enhances Professional Competence, (4) Educational Practices Foster Employability and Lifelong Learning, (5) Continuous Curriculum Improvement Strengthens Institutional Alignment, and (6) Strengthening Professional Development and Institutional Support. The findings revealed that institutional alignment extends beyond organizational compliance by integrating curriculum responsiveness, supportive educational environments, instructional innovation, and continuous institutional improvement to develop competent, ethical, adaptable, and workforce-ready educators. The study highlights the importance of sustaining institutional responsiveness and quality enhancement initiatives to strengthen graduate preparedness and improve teacher education outcomes.
