Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), including arthritis, osteoporosis, and chronic back pain, are among the most common health concerns affecting elderly populations. Age-related degeneration, reduced physical activity, and poor posture contribute significantly to the development and progression of these conditions, leading to pain, reduced mobility, and diminished quality of life. Preventive and non-pharmacological approaches are increasingly being explored to manage these disorders effectively. Yoga has emerged as a promising preventive intervention for musculoskeletal health due to its holistic approach that combines physical postures (Asanas), breathing techniques, and relaxation practices. The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Yoga as a preventive tool for musculoskeletal disorders in elderly populations. The study adopts an experimental design involving elderly participants who engaged in a structured Yoga program over a specified duration. The intervention focused on gentle stretching, strengthening exercises, balance training, and relaxation techniques tailored to the needs of older adults. Key parameters such as joint flexibility, muscle strength, pain levels, balance, and functional mobility were assessed before and after the intervention.
