Abstract

As autonomous vehicles (AVs) transition from experimental technology to practical application, they raise complex legal and ethical questions. This paper explores the legal and ethical challenges associated with autonomous vehicles, focusing on liability, privacy, and safety concerns. Through an analysis of legal frameworks in the United States and Europe, we examine the current state of AV regulation and highlight the gaps in existing laws that govern data usage, accident liability, and ethical decision-making in crash scenarios. The findings suggest that while AV technology promises to reduce traffic accidents and improve mobility, unresolved issues around accountability and ethical programming could hinder widespread adoption. The paper concludes with recommendations for policymakers to develop comprehensive regulations that address these emerging challenges.
