Environmental Impact of Plastic Waste: Strategies for Circular Economy Integration

Abstract

Plastic waste has become a critical environmental issue, contributing to pollution, biodiversity loss, and public health concerns. This paper investigates the environmental impact of plastic waste in India and explores strategies for integrating circular economy principles to mitigate these effects. Through case studies of plastic waste management programs in urban and rural areas, we evaluate the effectiveness of recycling initiatives, plastic alternatives, and waste reduction policies. Our findings reveal that while recycling rates are improving, significant gaps remain in collection infrastructure, public awareness, and regulatory enforcement. The study emphasizes the need for a circular economy approach that prioritizes reuse, recycling, and the reduction of plastic production to create a sustainable waste management system.
