Abstract

Powerful Knowledge and Spatial Citizenship have emerged as significant areas of discussion within Geography Education, yet their theoretical relationship remains insufficiently articulated. Although conceptually distinct, the two constructs are closely interconnected, particularly in relation to how geographical knowledge can contribute to learners’ understanding of engagement and participation in the society. Exploring the relationship between powerful knowledge and spatial citizenship therefore raises important theoretical and pedagogical questions for Geography Education. This reflection examines the connections between these two concepts, discussing the challenges and possibilities involved in, bringing them into dialogue and considering how their integration may contribute to rethinking the aims and practices of Geography Education. Building on this articulation, the article identifies key priorities for future research and educational practice, including strengthening theoretical dialogue between the concepts.
