Balancing Green Time to Reduce Intersection Delay in Rohtak, Haryana
Main Article Content
Abstract
Uneven green time can leave one road crowded while another receives more time than it needs. This study compares four signal plans at a four-arm junction in Rohtak. The peak hour has 6,294 vehicles, equal to 5,123 passenger car units (PCU). Webster’s method gives a 71.31-second cycle. The selected cycle is 72 seconds, with 35 seconds of North–South green and 29 seconds of East–West green. Against the existing 100-second cycle, the average uniform delay, weighted by PCU demand, falls from 22.55 to 17.34 seconds, about 23.1%. Average equivalent queue length falls from 112.34 to 84.65 metres, about 24.6%. West’s demand-to-capacity ratio falls from 1.026 to 0.866. The 72-second plan performs best among the four choices.
