Socio-Political Representation of the Turkish Diaspora in Germany: A Critical Discourse Analysis on the Program 'Bakış Açısı' on Kanal Avrupa TV (2005-2012)

Abstract
This study examines the socio-political representation of the Turkish diaspora in Europe, focusing on the program 'Bakış Açısı' broadcasted on Kanal Avrupa between 2005 and 2012. Structured around Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis and Socio-Cognitive Approach, the research meticulously analyzes the discourses developed in the face of integration policies, political participation, and traumatic events such as the Neo-Nazi organization (NSU) murders. The findings demonstrate that the Turkish community in Germany has shed its image as passive laborers and transformed into active agents with academic aspirations who demand their rights. The extensive program archive, featuring high-ranking politicians such as Christian Wulff and Armin Laschet, was analyzed at both micro and macro structural levels within the framework of the 'Ideological Square.' Conclusively, this study reveals that diaspora media transforms the discourse of victimization into a practice of resistance and rights-seeking, thereby offering a strategic arena of struggle within the host country. The study academically documents how the positive self-presentation of the Turkish community in Germany is empowered through the media and highlights their efficacy within the public sphere.
