Effectiveness of Online Library Resources Perceived Utility and User Satisfaction in Telangana State Private Universities.
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study aims at investigating the relationships between online resources use, usefulness perceptions, satisfaction with use, satisfaction with facility, and a comparison of the research design, methodology, and results with a recent Digital Library Perspectives article on library patrons perceptions of usefulness and satisfaction with library portals.
Methodology: The cross-sectional survey data collected was exposed to descriptive statistics, reliability test (Cronbach’s alpha), exploratory factor analysis (EFA), chi-square test with Cramer’s V statistic, independent-samples t-test with Mann-Whitney robustness test, one-way ANOVA with Tukey HSD post hoc test, correlation analysis and multiple linear regression with heteroscedasticity-consistent (HC3) standard error correction. The initial raw data included responses from 3,109 participants. After excluding 52 duplicate cases (1.67%), the resulting analytical data involved 3,057 university library users from five universities.
Findings: Perceived usefulness and satisfaction showed extremely high correlation (r = 0.867, p < 0.001), which is higher than the high correlation of r = 0.785 (p < 0.05) found between the two constructs by for the services offered via library portals in particular. The affiliation with university had the strongest demographic correlation with both the degree of awareness (Cramér's V = 0.249) and frequency of use (Cramér's V = 0.315). In regression analysis, perceived usefulness was the key determinant of satisfaction (β = 0.538, p < 0.001; R² = 0.806), while frequency of use made an insignificant unique contribution. Differences between males and females were significant but trivial (Cohen's d < 0.20), while those between various academic levels were more meaningful (η² up to 0.091).
Originality: This is one of the largest samples used for a statistical evaluation of the usefulness and satisfaction levels from university library resources online, as well as the first attempt to compare the usefulness-satisfaction relationship with a similar one conducted in a library portal study that was recently published..
