Abstract

Artificial intelligence is increasingly transforming human resource management by enabling personalized training, skill assessment, and data-driven workforce development. However, limited empirical attention has been given to the use of AI for managing employees’ workplace language skills, particularly through intelligent English language training systems. This study examines the role of Smart English Language Training (Smart ELT) in improving employees’ workplace language competence and organizational training effectiveness. A quantitative research design is proposed, with primary data collected from employees who have experience with AI-enabled or digitally supported workplace language training. Smart ELT is conceptualized through AI-based personalization, adaptive learning, automated language assessment, and real-time feedback. Workplace language competence and training effectiveness are assessed using structured measures. The relationships between Smart ELT and employee language competence and training effectiveness are tested using structural equation modelling. The study extends research on AI-enabled HRM by connecting artificial intelligence with workforce language development, an area that remains comparatively underexplored. Existing empirical research indicates that AI-enabled HR practices can influence employee development and performance, while AI-supported training can strengthen the contribution of employee development to HR outcomes. The study provides implications for HR managers seeking to design more adaptive, data-driven, and employee-centred training systems..
