Cybersecurity Threats among Generation Alpha Children: An Empirical Study Using the 4Cs Framework.

Abstract
Generation Alpha engages with interactive screens and algorithmic ecosystems from early developmental stages, exposing them to distinct digital exposures that remain underexplored relative to older cohorts. Grounded in the internationally recognized 4Cs classification (Contract, Content, Conduct, Contact), this empirical study investigates the prevalence of cyber threats among young minors and examines the relationships of screen duration, parental technical safeguards, and incident reporting with cyber-threat exposure. A quantitative descriptive research design was deployed, sampling 200 parents of children aged 3–14 years stratified across Pre-Primary, Primary, and Upper Primary developmental tiers. Data were evaluated using descriptive measures, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Spearman correlation. Empirical findings reveal that commercial exploitation represents the most universal threat (Contract Risk, M = 2.30), driven predominantly by deceptive in-game phishing links (45.0%) and unauthorized micro-transactions (40.5%). Daily unsupervised screen time demonstrates a statistically significant positive relationship with composite threat exposure (r = +0.461, p < 0.01), characterized by a sharp threshold jump in stranger contact at the 1-hour mark and heightened interpersonal friction beyond 3 hours. Furthermore, an inverse "supervision cliff" was observed: parental technical filtering decreased by 46.9% among older children, while total risk surged by 105.1% and voluntary reporting dropped by 31.4% due to fear of device punishment. Structural technical controls exhibited a stronger negative correlation with overall risk (r = -0.463) than voluntary disclosure (r = -0.250). These findings highlight the necessity of multi-stakeholder governance integrating automated OS limits, primary school digital literacy programs, and regulatory Age-Appropriate Design Codes..
