Parental Involvement in Special Education: A Key to Student Achievement

Abstract

The engagement of parents is essential to the achievement of success in special education because it helps to bridge the gap between the home and the school, therefore creating a learning environment that is collaborative and supportive for kids who have a variety of needs.
Through the course of this article, we investigate the significant part that parents play in the educational path of their children who have impairments. The article dives into the advantages of parental participation, which include higher academic performance, greater social and emotional development, and increased self-efficacy for both kids and their parents. Additionally, the article investigates a variety of approaches to parental involvement, including but not limited to attending meetings regarding Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), actively participating in homework assignments, and communicating with teachers. In addition, it draws attention to the difficulties and obstructions that parents can face and provides the means by which they might overcome these challenges and hurdles. This paper advocates for the essential partnership between parents, educators, and support teams in order to ensure that students with disabilities receive the personalised and inclusive education that they deserve. This is accomplished by recognising the transformative potential of parental involvement.
